Measuring
The direction looks wrong.
Metal railings and nearby electronics can disturb the phone's compass. When Sunperch notices this it asks you to point the camera at the sun; that one step corrects the heading. On a cloudy day, enter the direction by hand from a map.
How should I hold the phone?
Lay it flat against the spot where the panel will hang, screen facing you and the back facing outward, the way the panel would. Hold still for about three seconds until the reading settles.
The shade scan missed something.
You can drag any point of the skyline up or down after the scan. Re-scan if you've moved to a different part of the balcony.
Estimates
Why is my number lower than other calculators?
Most calculators assume a tilted roof facing south. A panel hanging on a railing is vertical and faces wherever your building faces, which usually means less sun. Sunperch measures that instead of assuming it.
How accurate is it?
Without shade, within about 6% of NREL's PVWatts on average (13% at worst) in our tests at 10 U.S. cities. The app shows a range rather than a single number for that reason.
Pro and purchases
How do I restore Pro on a new phone?
Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID. Family members can use Pro through Family Sharing.
Can I get a refund?
Purchases go through Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Law data
How current are the state rules?
The current data is dated October 8, 2026 (version 2026100801). We check it weekly and the app downloads updates on its own, at most once a week. If an update fails, the app keeps using what it has.
